buy ticketsEsi [Irakli Shonia] is a multidisciplinary artist, music composer, live performer, and DJ from Georgia, born in 1985.
Since the early 2000s, he has been crafting music under various monikers and engaging in numerous collaborations. Some of his former and active projects include: Esi + Octachoron present Fear Pollution (premiered on the main stage of Berlin Atonal 2018), V.C.V.S. (an inactive duo that played numerous gigs both live and as DJs in Georgia and abroad, released music on Vodkast Records and Soul Jazz Records), Datagramma (currently active with Rezo Glonti, released a cassette including a live recording from their gig at the 2nd Tbilisi Triennale 2015).
His former solo projects include Vincent Volt and Severiane, interesting for their live concerts at the Unsound Festival 2016 in Batumi and a performance with Mika Vainio and Natalie Beridze at Didi Gallery, Tbilisi, in the same year. The main focus among his projects is ESI, under which he released his first mini-album FORTY ONE FORTY FOUR on CES Records in 2021, in Tbilisi. This experimental, electroacoustic album is unique with its concept. This is how Esi describes in his own words:
"It all started as a visual project in 2015. I had no certain narrative, I was just taking photographs of different spaces and architecture. Later their acoustic aspect appeared interesting to me. To be precise, I came up with an idea to document the sonic data (reverberation) of those spaces.
The content of the accumulated work inspired me to use collected data (a digital simulation of an acoustic environment. Impulse Response) for my audio tracks and put it in a certain structure and make a compilation, which would have a clear concept and could be identified as a completed audio work.
Since the entire audio material was produced in Tbilisi, I decided to name it 41° 43' 0.001'' N / 44° 46' 59.999'' (Forty One Forty Four). These are the geographical coordinates of Tbilisi. ‘’
Irakli is the visionary founder and curator behind 'Low Fuzz'—a musical platform, record label, and series of events hosted at Mutant Radio and Left Bank. This initiative is dedicated to showcasing a diverse spectrum of experimental, electronic, and acoustic music. The concept started as a collaborative show with Mutant Radio and has grown with Left Bank to host regular event series in a club setting. With the proper sound system to showcase and the ability to extend playtime, Low Fuzz lines up all sorts of genres and styles to host local and international artists from time to time.
